THE DESKTOP MUSIC WORKSHOP DRAWER.
Welcome to the DMW drawer. Firstly, I want to publicly thank Ray
for allowing us room on his CD-ROM. Its a great priviledge for
us, as none of our music has been produced using the excellent
OctaMED program. We chose to use the far less capable Sonix
program and, well, we've kinda got used to it! Having said that,
Version 6 of OctaMED may well change all that...
Ray has always been a firm supporter of the Workshop, especially
back when he was running Amiganuts, something for which I will
always be very grateful. I guess you could say we go back a long
I must confess to being a closet OctaMED user though, it's always
good for a tinker, although I've never produced anything of note,
(but that's my fault, not OctaMED's) and I have always been very
enthusiastic about this superb program, probably THE de-facto music
program available for the Amiga, bar none!
A WORD ABOUT THE DMW
Since 1989, I have been producing synthesised classical music
using the Amiga's internal sound chip, firstly in isolation and
latterly in collaboration with my good friend Hugh Gammon. We
decided to call ourselves the Desktop Music Workshop in 1991.
The selection of our work in this drawer covers the period from
1990 to the present day. Some very early work has been left out
as its;
a) a bit clunky by our present standards.
b) re-done better on later releases!
As I said, virtually all the output of the DMW is arrangements
of classical music, but there have been some original,
contemporary works released from time to time, a couple of examples
of which can be found in here (mind you, some of my REALLY strange
stuff has never seen the light of day....).
Each DMW music disk contains a comprehensive read_me file with
plenty of information about the music thereon, plus loads more
background on the DMW as a whole, so I reckon that's more than
enough from me for this little read_me file!
Hugh and I hope you enjoy the examples of our output from over the
years. Have fun.
Very best wishes,
Rob Baxter

DeskTop Music Workshop, who concentrate their musical talents on producing
classical music releases, has, as you have just read, kindly given their
permission to include some of their talented work on this cdrom.
As these disks have been setup to primarily be run from a bootable diskette,
we have left them in the .dms format.
You will need a copy of the SDS Diskmasher program, ( available from most
suppliers ), to un-DMS the files in this drawer directly onto blank disks
and you are advised to use a utility like SID to view this drawers contents.
We would like to thank both Rob and Hugh for their help and look forward
to more from this very talented team.
New DMW releases will be found on the OctaMED User BBS and are also supplied
by reputable PD suppliers such as 17 bit, Seasoft, NBS and their associates.
